Broom Hill: Summit Loop from Blanchard
Free Group Hike
Sat, Jun 30, 2018 10:00 AM
This is an adults only (19+) event!
This moderate hike offers a gorgeous view of East Sooke Park, the Olympic Mountains, and also Port Angeles on a clear day. Due to the number of exposed boulders on the surface of the trail, it can be challenging in wet weather. The sheer number of nested trails are ideal for beginner mountain bikers. On the same note, our GPS map is essential for hikers without excellent trail sense. While not officially maintained, the trails are very well used, and double-wide for most sections. Smaller side trails shoot off for different views. At one point, even pass a cute little rope swing!
A dense lattice of under-tree fern are bountiful, as are old-growth trees. At the top hikers can view the Sooke Basin and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. On the return trail on the northern side, hikers will pass by an old abandoned car nestled in the forest to the left of the trail. Salmon berries are in huge abundance here in the summer months.
While there are a couple different entrances into this network, the main trailhead is at the end of Blanchard near the new sub division development (June 2018).
